GingerFind’s Trend Report for Bella Petite:

For the petite woman, fashion stylist Jill Heller from Pure Thread Boutique’s advises her clients to pick 3/4 sleevestomake your arms look longer. With a great focus on eco fashion, Jill recommends the STEWART + BROWN 3/4 sleeve made with organic cotton.   Stewart + Brown uses only organic cotton.  They say that purchasing organic products is good stewardship: it helps everyone by preserving and sustaining the quality of our air, water, food, and land for current and future generations. Organic cotton is the smart choice.

For Fall 2010, show a little skin to help elongate your frame. Select dresses with a v or deep neckline.   Jill selected this animal print from eco fashion designer SAMANTHA SUNG. The dress has a button front neckline, with 3/4 sleeves.  The dress makes strong statement in a printed pattern, but can be paired with a medium sized belt and cardigan sweater to define the waistline and add a light layer to the garment. Pair with WOLFORD OPAQUE tights and high heel boot for a classic fall look.

REFINED LOOKS

The collection also features V neck button front cardigans made of bamboo and organic cotton — The cardigans are cropped, nicely fitted at the waist and come in a rich array of colors for fall such as grey, brown, green, and navy.

Ginger advises her clients to complete their fall look with a refined handbag.

Jill advises her clients to define “refined” as “to re-find” in your closet. In the eco-world, the term is interchanged with “repurposing or up-cycling” – the act of taking something old and making it new again.

ACCESSORY “MUST HAVES”

Jill found a great resource for us— reMade USA. Designer Shannon South uses vintage leather jackets she found at Goodwill and creates one of a kind handbags in all shapes and sizes. Chose the best shape for your size , whether you prefer the slouchy duffle bag, the small day to evening bag, or a single or double strap, bags that end at mid-section length are wonderful for Jill’s petite clients. Jill suggested we gather as a group and she will personally bring us to meet with Shannon, and take part in the design process, creating a new handbag from your old and almost forgotten leather jacket.

Ginger said GREY ACCESSORIES, such as a hat, or a knit scarf worn at the neck.  Jill immediately thought of her season pick from her friends in London who founded Panchachuli.   Jill believes accessories that draw the eye up toward your face and shoulders are great for a petite woman who has a longer torso.

COLOR TRENDS

Ginger discussed Fall color trends and highlighted the palette of rich neutral tones such as camel and grey.  The fair isle or nordic trend of the season from eco designer Joann Berman. Reminiscent of the knitwear in the 90’s, the vintage cotton knit sleeveless tunic can be worn as a sweater or as a dress with leggings.

Inspired by the look of Azzadine Alaia, JoAnn designed this piece to define the body, showing off every curve.  It also features a smoothly dipped front and back. The nordic pattern is a fall classic and can be worn with a vertical shaped cardi-sweater coat in a neutral color palette.

PETITE WOMEN IN FASHION!

Jill loves this look for her petite clients, but suggests to avoid heavy layering and keep your cardigan in a lighter weight tissue cashmere or cotton from brands such as White + Warren, who have sweater coats for women in all climates in the US.

Ginger recommends lifting your mood with glam make-up, and Jill says, “let me introduce you to my dear friend, and make-up artist partner, Gary Greco…one of the most talented and nicest human being you will ever meet.

Anyone who joins me for a private session with Gary, ends up wearing the greatest, biggest smile, and walk away with renewed self-confidence that makes any petite woman the tallest woman on the block!”
