PETITE POWER ON THE TENNIS COURT, YES WE HAVE SPORTS!

By Ann Lauren

Petites prove to be powerful on the tennis court.  Former world No.1 Tracy Austin is 5’5″ and was quick to give her verdict on fashion at Wimbledon during an exclusive interview with the Wimbledon.org web-team.

The petite American, who was a double US Open winner in 1979 and 1981, reckons players today have much more scope to experiment with their outfits than she did in her heyday.

“I think some of the dresses are absolutely beautiful,” she said. “It’s important they play great but look great as well.

“‘Venus’ dress is very feminine, she has that nice flair. And Maria Sharapova’s dress is beautiful.”

And, despite the backlash towards Roger Federer’s military jacket, Tracy reckons it’s great to see people making such a

effort at Wimbledon.

She said, “Roger makes a big deal of his fashion and I like that because people want to know what he’s going to wear.”

Tracy comments, “I like the fact they’re bringing out specific dresses and outfits for Wimbledon.” Here, here.

Bella observation: Rafael Nadal brings it with his fashionista style, but his underwear selection is in question.  Watching him play, and pick out his tightie-whities, is always entertaining.  One wonders why he wears them… they look so uncomfortable! Fashion suggestion: think “thong” Nadal.

Players Unveil Special Wimbledon Outfits

NEW WIMBLEDON LOOK- MARIA SHARAPOVA

On June 23 this year Wimbledon’s superstars unveiled their new outfits.  Old Russion military style seemed a common trend (not sure if that’s a step in the right direction… perhaps some political commentary?).  This year’s dress might be best described as “Liberace” meets “Officer and a Gentlemen style.”

Sharapova wore a “belted jacket reminiscent of old military style Russia,” and her white and gold bag was customised with her initials, like Federer’s, and decorated with a Wimbledon street-map design. Judge for yourself. We’d loved to hear Bella Petite reader’s comments.  Tell us what you think, thumbs up or down?
