The Bella Petite Hour with Host Ann Lauren is coming to you live with “Holiday Fashion Highlights” on December 15th! The show will be an excellent mix of holiday fashion advice and fashion designer insights.

Fernanda Carniero was born in Porto Alegre, Brazil and moved to the United States at age five. Carneiro showed a penchant for design at a young age, cultivating her creativity under her grandmother, from whom she inherited her refined taste for clothing design and impeccable construction.

Carniero graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in marketing and went on to complete her education at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles. FIDM’s provided excellent opportunities for an upcoming designer to network with working professionals and current fashion houses, according to Carneiro. Upon graduation she received and accepted an offer to work in production and design for major fashion label BCBG Max Azria.

Fernanda Carneiro 2010Carneiro also explained why she is not an exclusively petite designer, “the word ‘petite’ has a bad rep in the industry by the buyers,” she says, so she decided to offer “contemporary sizing as well as petite.” In fact, she tells us her clothing line is “not scaled according to petite or contemporary sizing standards.” Carneiro has developed “signature sizing for more of the latina frame.” Meaning the hip sizing is a bit wider to accommodate real figures like hers and she’s 5’4″. Not necessarily the typical straight cut fashion frame.

What we’ve learned is that Fernanda Carneiro is an innovative and fresh designer not falling in line with the expected fashion standards. She utilizes true petite models in her advertising campaigns, and since she sent bella petite her 2010 look book, we can confirm it features petite models! Here’s a sample of Fernanda Carneiro’s 2010 collection, we thought it would be great to give you a sneak peek at her “little black dress,” perfect for any occasion, along with a wonderful white dress ready for spring. Change is coming in the fashion world and Bella Petite Magazine, in harmony with fabulous designers like Fernanda Carneiro, will make it happen!

Working for BCBG gave her the experience and the working knowledge she required to launch her namesake label Fernanda Carneiro in 2008. The capsule collection premiered with vivid silk dresses and separates. Carneiro strives to create pieces that are elegant, timeless, innovative and versatile. Created upon a foundation of meticulous construction, refined fabric selection and ingenious design conception to embody the modern woman. Fernanda Carneiro debuted her 2010 spring collection as a winner of the first Fashion Angel Awards Emerging Designer. Carneiro’s collection is fit for the stars as seen on petite celebrities: 5’2″ Anika Noni Rose, 5’3″ Julie Benz, 5’4″ Roselyn Sanchez, 5’2″ Melonie Diaz and 5’3″ Kirsten Storms to name a few. One things is for certain, Fernanda Carneiro has stars in her future!

  1. Fernanda Carneiro is a hot clothing designer and she looks good too! I think petite women are the best most beautiful creatures! Tall women are nothing in comparison.
