The Bella Petite Hour a fashion, entertainment and lifestyle radio show (with host Ann Lauren) has special guest celebrity petite model 5’3″ Sundai Love, from the Tyra Banks (ANTM) America’s Next Top Model Cycle 13 “shorty edition.”

Sundai Love became a Bella Petite Member three weeks ago and entered the Bella Petite Magazine model search!

BELLA PETITE COVER GIRL OF THE MONTH “SUNDAI”

Sundai is the first official Bella Petite Magazine cover girl to be named in our model search in an effort to find the best petite model faces in the world. We could not be more thrilled to have Sundai Love kick off our petite model search promotions! BellaPetite.com will feature twelve petite model cover girl winners this year!

This is incredibly exciting news on the petite fashion scene. We are creating fashion history at BellaPetite.com with our first petite model cover girl Sundai Love!

SUNDAI LOVE: MOST PETITE MODEL EVER TO APPEAR ON AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL

As we promised, 2010 is “The Year of the Petite Woman!” Sundai was the most petite model to ever appear on America’s Next Top Model, and made it into the top five model finalist round before her elimination.

This last season of Tyra Banks ANTM cycle 13 focused their reality show model search on what they considered to be “petite” models at 5’7″ and shorter.

The fashion industry is a world of distortion and exaggeration. ANTM was fraught with deceptions and inaccuracies especially noted on the “Dive Deeper” episode with 5’8″ Marissa Miller trying to represent her self as a petite model. The only true petite models featured on ANTM were 5’3″ Sundai, 5’4″ Courtney, 5’5″ Jennifer and 5’5″ Lisa. Also, Brittney reportedly has now out grown her petite status as she is 5’7″.

LIFE AFTER ANTM

Currently, Sundai is attending college studying business and veterinary sciences to further her education and earn degrees as a fall back option once she’s had a enough of the entertainment and modeling world. In addition, she is writing a book on her personal life experience’s including what it’s like breaking into the acting and modeling business.

Sundai tells me that she is continuing the pursuit of her efforts to become a petite model and actress, and will share with us on the “Bella Petite Hour” how she got on America’s Next Top Model. We will Talk about what life was like on the show, and she will Tell us what the other ANTM girls were like to live with. Who on the show has found opportunity to work as a model and whose dreams were washed away after the show?

ANTM LEADING THE WAY FOR PETITE MODELS

Plus, we will discuss if she feels ANTM was helpful and beneficial in opening the doors for her career as a true petite model. We will even find out about her Covergirl Campaign challenge win on the show and how that’s going! Sundai will discuss whether she feels ANTM was a “positive and accurate” representation of the petite fashion market. We’ll get into the real issues about the petite fashion industry.

SUNDAI’S FUTURE WITH BELLA PETITE

We have reported extensively on America’s Next Top Model and it’s no secret Sundai Love was one of BellaPetite.com’s petite model favorites on the show! You can read all of the BellaPETITE.COM ANTM articles here.

  1. What did you think of Brittany M? When did you decide you wanted to be a model? What did you do before ANTM to try and fulfill this dream?

  2. Do you think the girls over 5'5" had an unfair advantage? Do you think they were petite? Did you get signed by an agency as a petite model after ANTM?

  3. Do you read petite blogs like Alterations Needed and Petite Asian Girl? Do you think they, along with Bella Petite Magazine, can be a voice for petites? Why don't you think the mainstream fashion industry cares that much about hs?

  4. "Pedophile Playhouse!" that's the funniest analogy ever! ANTM didn't do right by the petite woman! Tyra deserves the boot…love your idea of America's Next Top Model "Fatty" edition! Serves them right after demeaning us petites! I am fired up to be part of the petite fashion movement, let's get this party rockin! I'm in!

  5. Love, lov, luv your show Ann! Sundai was totally fun enjoyed her perspective and 100% agree that ANTM sucks! We can make it happen at Bella petite girls, it's about time we are recognized!

  6. Thanks Ann for asking all of the questions on my mind about ANTM! It's great to see Sundai Love is the first petite model cover girl at Bellapetite, What a perfect fit! I really liked the show once you hit the air waves Ann! Great job leading us petites to opportunity!

  7. This is a dream come true for us petites! What can I do to help out? I am already a registered member and I don't want to be a model, but I do want to see petite clothes on petite models with real fashion advice unlike the dirty old rags on the shelves not worth mentioning;-0

    1. Hi Lesley: There's so much you can do to spread the news petites are coming up in the fashion ranks! I've made several suggestion as to what you can do to help out in the Bella Petite membership newsletter. Have a good one!

  8. Sundai you are an inspiration to petite models and I wonder why you don't have a modeling agent after being on ANTM? You should be having lots of model jobs is because of your height for real that you don’t get the same work?

  9. I listened to the show with Sundai and I have a few comments. I'm a working 5'7 (in my converse sneakers) Model in NYC and I think there is a certain respect for the business that needs to be maintained. The business is mainly tall women over 5'8 just like pro basketball players are mostly over 6'5. There are many that are pro and are 5'11 and that idea holds the same for the Model industry. There are an exception to every rule. I don't like that fact that smaller girls under 5'5 are saying that 5'7 is tall in the industry and they are the REAL petites. I feel like the shorter girl wants everyone to feel bad for her because she is small and has to work harder. I don't feel like 5'7 is a flaw and I don't mention my height and never have to defend it. Whether a girl is 5'7 or 5'4 it is still petite in the model industry. I'm a black woman in the business and it's a mainly white oriented world so I have to work 10 times the amount but I don't make excuses for that I just keep going hoping to open more doors. I dont know that one day 5'3 will be the norm in the business I doubt it but I feel like 5'3 girls that are making a change just have to pay their dues just like the Asians and Blacks, basically the Ethnics in the model business are still doing. Good luck to you Sundai and if you are ever in NYC look me up-Malika Harris, you can google, maybe my booker will take you on…she too is 5'3 haha!

    1. Bella Petite supports healthy lively debate! We want our readers to get involved and speak their mind. Perceptions can be changed and shaped. The idea that "there is a certain respect for the business that needs to be maintained. The business is mainly tall women over 5'8 just like pro basketball players." This is a fashion misnomer.

  10. Malika, the last thing we petites care about is your nasty inconsiderate remarks! You are out of line here this is about real women not tall girls like you! As you state you get work all the time at 5'7". The fashion industry is full of idiots and bad ideas thank goodness Tyra Banks talkshow is cancelled and so is ANTM in two seasons. Tall women are pros or representative of beauty! NO way they are just weird, awkward and strange to look at! You think racial discrimination is equal to height discrimination you need to realign your moral compass! What's great about bella petite is they understand what petite is and the fashion industry is a known joke and has it wrong!

    1. how are my comments nasty and rotten and I am NOT tall as far as the model industry is concerned! I am just being realistic and saying that it is not helping the industry by complaining about your height and using it as an excuse! They don't care whether it's 5'1 or 5'6 its all the same to them

      1. You are so wrong the modeling industry does not look at a 5'1" girl the same as a 5'6" model you are clueless and ignorant. You are 5'7" you can't seem to understand why you are off base! No way ever a 5'1" girl can walk into an agency and get the same agent or opportunity a 5'6 model does and everyone knows this. You comment that "I think there is a certain respect for the business that needs to be maintained. The business is mainly tall women over 5'8 just like pro basketball players" Guess what we are not complaining this website and Ann is doing something to break the stupid "industry height standards" that's not complaining!!!!!

  11. Tyra Banks looks and smells like a rotten egg! The modeling world is for stupid people anyway just a bunch of vain needy girls crying for attention and to be looked at how gross! Petite girls are too good for the fashion magazine's! gosh guys think tall girls are ugly.

    1. That's not fair to say that the model world is for the stupid. I'm not stupid or needy person I am a working person in the business and as far as I know so is Ann the person who started this site, so is she stupid too??

  12. I love what Bellapetite is doing for real petite girls of the world! No one thinks girls over 5'5" are petite that is another fashion joke played on all of us. I think you and Sundai got it right we have to get on this movement together and make petites be part of the fashion world too! I joined as a member today!

  13. Malika,

The point of Bella Petite magazine is to promote petites, that is REAL petites, those that mall stores call petites. In other words, women who are under 5'4" or 5'5". Petite models in the "real" modeling world, that is, women 5'6" to 5'8" do not model generally model petite clothes – they, especially those who're closer to the 5'8" range are too tall. I don't even think petite-focused designers DESIRE to use someone your height. They know that it wouldn't be realistic to do so (tell me honestly, Malika, can you pull off a pair of pants that has a 29" inseam without look like you're wearing a pair of slightly long capris?). And Ann started the site to promote real petite women, not model-petite women.

    Just a thought.

    C

  14. I think Sundai you are really so cool on the radio show! Thanks for telling the realities of the petite model world. We salute you and not the women over 5'5" who have opportunity to work and we don't! Good luck and I hope you and bella petite will make this happen for us petites!

  15. OMG Malika! to quote you "I think there is a certain respect for the business that needs to be maintained. The business is mainly tall women over 5'8 just like pro basketball players" Are you kidding me, no one respects models! I doubt anyone respects the industry height standards! How rude are you to imply that women under the "industry height standards" at under 5'6" would be less respectful and less attractive and less of anything, you should be Tyra Banks side kick! You are the reason along with the industry fools that the perception exist that real petite women are less attractive and not qualified to be a precious model! I'm in Los Angeles an area where petites rarely if at all get work or even in the door at an agency! Did you hear what Sundai had to say about this?

    1. Come to New York there is work for you here. I don't know about being Tyra's side kick but I do have to thank her for opening the doors for black models in the business so she had a certain amount of respect from me for sure. As far as there being 5'3 models in the business, you have to start somewhere, maybe 10 years from now there will be. Ethnic Models aren't still being seen on the runways and this is 2010. Make small changes and stop crying over your height and arguing with me, I'm NOT the enemy. Good Luck

  16. Hello everyone I luv the bella petite hour radio show I listen to it every week and this one was my favorite one so far! Sundai so fun! Thank you Sundai for sharing your recent experiience trying to be a model and the truth about the lack of agents and work for petite models!!!!! It is not right to call women 5'6" and over petite they aren't they are TALL! I am a member of petites and I will help any way I can for petite girls to have magazine. It is about time! Thank you Ann!

  17. What a good show! You go gurl friends. We petite women are sick of this treatment. Ann and Sundai made a great duo and really shed light on the crude reality of reality tv and Tyra Banks the joke! To Malika we don't care about you defending and making excuses for why only girls like 5'6" and over are the fashion industry focus. We care about changing it. We petite ones should boycott all of the fashion magazine showing tall models and only read bella and we will see if they survive without us buying them! HAHA…

    1. wow that is unreal to say that. You don't like descrimination but you are enforcing it-interesting! and since when is 5'6 tall??

      1. Get real Malika I am 5'1" you are huge to me! All of my short girlfriends agree it stinks to look at fashion magazines and see women like you we hate it! They only discrimination happening is by girls like you and your agents and photographers and the advertisements we see. I am on model mayhem none of the photographers will shoot you if you are under 5'6"!!!!

        1. Leesa Please get off Model mayhem first of all. A lot of girls on there are NOT real working Models in the industry, they are girls looking to shoot sexy photos and get attention. There are many photographers that shoot commercial print and I don't know where you live but here in NYC there are a lot of them that work with print agencies where height does NOT matter. Get that negative thought out of your head. Forget these websites that won't do anything for your career it's a waste of time. Don't be frustrated at your height or mine that won't get you ahead in the business. Once you stop thinking about your height as a flaw everyone else will. Good Luck to you!

        2. So bad and obnoxious you are Malika. Bella petite is the only place on the internet with good information and Ann tells it like it is! We petite gals think those others over 5'4" are tall period! We are not interested in seeing clothing on gals of your height let alone the tall hags 5'9 and taller! OMG its a nightmare! I am like totally on the same page with Ann and Sundai! You're just here to bug us or what? This website is all about petite women if you don't like it or agree head over to the other rag sites all about you!

          1. what a shame you feel that way and are so closed minded to others point of view and opinions. Good thing you are NOT in the Model business because you couldn't handle all the commentary. Hope you accomplish whatever it is that you are trying to accomplish. I guess I'll head over to the 5'7 site for the in between girls who are not droning over themselves. Unbelieveable.
Ann this is a great site nevertheless, keep doing what you are doing and too bad for all the closed minded people, where on earth do they come from??

          2. And you can't handle the commentary either. This site serves the same purpose for women under 5'4"/5'5" as plus size fashion sites serve women over a size 14. We have a right to complain and voice our beliefs, just as they do.

            Thanks

  18. You guys rocked it on this show! Petite women should not be put down and made fun of anymore and we can stop it by being a part of this! It made totally sense what Sundai said about the what we have to do if we want to be models too! Malika, we don't care about women who aren't petite and care even less that the fashion industry calls women 5'6 and over petite, it is not the way we all feel and see it!

  19. The bella petite radio show is the best on the internet! Finally, a real website and organization doing something positive for we petite women! I'm a member! I get it Sundai' experience prove we have get together here with bella and create change or I we'll ever get is scraps as petites never the real modeling jobs. I pledge to quit buying the other fashion magazines like cosmo, vogue and the others they wreak, all they have is tall tall and more tall sick of it! I only want to read bella petite!

  20. When Ann speaks we should all listen. You are on top of it and I admire what you are doing for we petite ones:-) I can't believe Covergirl finked out on Sundai's contract. Rotten Tyra Banks and her hokey ANTM bye bye Tyra she is all about herself and nothing else. Thanks Sundai for telling it like it is for real petite models trying to work.

  21. Really great show with Sundai! I loved it so much it was so informative and really interesting to know how the world looks at us petite girls especially us that are under 5'5" we really don't have a chance without this website and what Ann is doing. Like Sundai said to much complaining and not enough action to make it better and that's why bella is such a good thing for us. I am a member and I will do what i can to help us out.

  22. What is really great is to be a part of this website cause it won't take long for everything to change when we petite girls are members. We can see things are changing with bellapetite magazine coming out this year with no tall women in it I can't wait. that will turn the fashion idiots over haha!

My response is the fashion industry is always evolving and we can usher in a "new breed" of models that don't fit the status quo. The 1950's is when the industry trended away from petite to tall. Everything is cyclical and it's time petite women were back en vogue! The fashion industry height standards will change and Bella Petite's mission is to make that happen along with our members support!

“Curvy’s happened, stick thin’s happened, super tall’s happened, plus size’s happened…and petite, you better believe, is just around the corner. How does it feel to be up and coming?!”

  24. Hey everyone: THIS IS SUNDAI

Thanks so much for tuning in and listening. You guys are making a huge difference in the world of petite modeling and its great to see so many involved. It’s not going to be easy but with enough help and effort for this community it can happen. It takes you becoming a member of BellaPetite. (Rome wasn’t built in a day) he he don’t ya hate when your mother tells you that? Lol BUT 2010 IS THE YEAR! Lets put Rome up!. It’s our year, now or never no more procrastinations we have to change the Industry ourselves because by the looks of it no ones going to do it for us! Join Ann and me on this journey .. it’s a great idea. Feel free to hit me up any time with questions, comments, or advice. You can go to the Bella Petite Facebook Fan page and I’ll of course be here on BellaPetite.

  25. I am 5′-5″ and I have an agency but I cannot get booked because everyone wants models that are 5′-7″ and taller. So that is how Malika is gets bookings. She is correct that the agencies state that she is petite, that is the shortest they want a model to be. I have basically given up on getting a paid booking. I will try Bella Petite model search when I am old enough, I am only 16 now.
