VANESSA’S DESIGN TRENDS AND TIPS: By Bella Petite Magazine Interior Design Expert!

1. Ikat

Ikat in a different colors and pattern sizes is everywhere this year. Fashion runways set the trend even for home goods such as pillows, accessories, window treatments, etc. This new in vogue pattern is refreshing and energizing that gives an exotic look. It can come in monochromatic or bold and rich colors combinations.

2. Wallpaper

Wallpaper is back and patterns are better than ever. You can enhance your home by using wallpaper on one wall, above or bellow chair rail, or even dress up the whole space from head to toe.   People are using wallpaper in different parts of the home from bathrooms to the main living area. Until recently people mainly used wallpaper on accent walls.  However, times have changed and the latest trend you can expect to see is not only wallpapered walls, but the ceiling too!

3. Paint Color

Wisely chosen paint color as an accent can add personality and depth to the space. You can pull colors from decorative throws, pillows, artwork and even window treatments Accent paint color is also an inexpensive approach to transform an entire room.

Choosing a color you like is the hardest part.  What’s most important is to find one that will create a desired mood and make you happy.   If you truly do not have a clue on what color to paint try pulling a color out of a piece of art or an area rug that’s in the room.  It’s a guaranteed way to find a complimentary color!  Using multi colors in one room.  If you have a chair rail or wainscoting and you want to paint the top and bottom of the walls different colors it’s best to use the darker color on the bottom and lighter on the top.  The light color will dominate and the dark color will ground the room.

4. How to make your space look bigger.

It can be very difficult to create an airy and open atmosphere in a few hundred square feet, but when properly planned and thought out a small space can be just as beautiful and functional as a large one.  In fact, there are plenty fo things that can be done when decorating smaller spaces to make them look and feel bigger. Mirrors are a great way to accessorize small spaces. They reflect light and create a sense of openness.  That said there are few rules to use when using mirrors in small spaces.  Using mirrored furniture is a great way to go!  Clear glass and acrylic pieces will make your space appear to feel bigger and more open.
